tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28181122.post503999509800221027..comments2023-12-19T02:12:42.656-08:00Comments on The Underdog for Kids: theunderdogforkidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07857955844103261704noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28181122.post-44575177616247876522008-09-30T15:16:00.000-07:002008-09-30T15:16:00.000-07:00One of the goals of the Point Fermin Outdoor Educa...One of the goals of the Point Fermin Outdoor Education Center is to provide native plants at the site and allow the natural vegetation to regain ground lost by 'foreign' plants being introduced.<BR/><BR/>One of the plants that is native to the area provides a home for the commonly known Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly.<BR/><BR/>When the Center is redeveloped and the native plant life is brought back it is also hoped that more native wildlife will come back.<BR/><BR/>The red-tail fox is NOT native to the area, but the Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly is.<BR/><BR/>The butterfly is an endangered species and many members of our community know.<BR/><BR/>It seems to many, many locals that providing an environment for the butterfly, one that can be enoyed by students at the Education Center is nothing but a good thing.<BR/><BR/>However, no new high school campus would be allowed to be built close to the native habitat of the P.V. blue butterfly and that is exactly part of the programs coming to the Center.<BR/><BR/>I think students need to learn more about what is native, natural, and welcome in the area, rather than building any new campus that would interfere in that educational process.<BR/><BR/>If a new 'satellite' campus to San Pedro High School is truly needed, then it can be built on LAUSD-owned land in northwest San Pedro or other alternatives to building it on the Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur must be found.M Richardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08644940232494534872noreply@blogger.com
